Dear Readers,

Neville Vakharia discusses the im­pact new media and technology is having on American society. He reviews the benefits that new media bring to non profit organizations. Many art organizations are beginning to utilize online tools. An interview with Charles Croce explores The Philadelphia Museum of Art's use of new technologies including podcasting, RSS feeds and Guide by Cell. He describes how these technologies have been successful among museum visitors. Also, Abby Franzen- Sheehan reviews The Andy Warhol Museum's success with online educational programs. The museum has designed an interactive website which provides educators with materials to incorporate art into the classroom. The Andy Warhol Museum receives praise from school teachers for their multidisciplinary online re­sources.

Furthermore. there are many events to come sponsored by the AAGA. President Karla Bieniulis discusses the Art Auction, Na­tional Arts Advocacy Day, and the Speaker Series, among other events. Also, be sure to log on to the new AAGA website which will be launched during December 2006.

I would like to extend my congratula­tions to all art administration students who are finishing their course work this quarter. I wish you the best of luck completing your master's thesis and hope that you find exciting posi­tions in the art world.

Finally, I want to thank the students and alumni for their contributions and I en­courage you to continue updating Artsline on your accomplishments. I would especially like to thank Ximena Varela, Melissa Valvik and Ann Antanavage for all of their help and guidance in helping me get this issue off the ground.

Dear Readers,

Another academic year is coming to a close and, quite frankly, many of us are glad to have a break to enjoy the summer sunshine.

This issue of Artsline offers insight into the world of measuring organizational success. Those in the arts are all too familiar with the need to measure how well their organization is doing. We are also familiar with how hard it is to put a number on success. The arts organizations included in this issue, Headlong Dance Theater and 1812 Productions, are both relatively young organizations that took the time to contribute their success stories with us and hope that, although counting and surveying may be inevitable, we can see and learn other ways, beyond numbers to consider success.

Additionally, in efforts to expand the scope of Artsline, you will find more student information, statements from the new AAGA officers, and an insert on the theses completed this year. We are a close-knit Arts Administration community at Drexel and I wanted this issue of Artsline to begin to reflect that by letting our readers get to know what our students are interested in and accomplishing, both in and out of the classroom.

I want to thank Anna Drozdowski and Kate Tejada for contributing their time and resources. I also want to extend a great big thank you to the Artsline Advisor, Ximena Varela, who helped me tremendously as I took on my first issue by myself.

In closing, I want to thank all of the students, alumni and readers that contributed information and encourage all of our readers, especially Drexel Alumni, to let Artsline know where you are and how you are. I would also like to offer congratulations and encouragement to the next graduate assistant who will be taking my place as Artsline Editor in the Fall.

Greetings!

In this issue of Artsline we interviewed professionals in the field for their expertise and advice on consulting in arts and culture. I would especially like to thank Diane Mataraza, William Rosenberg, Neville Vakharia, Julie Goodman-Hawkins and Susan Weiss for their contributions to the Q&A article, and current student Jennifer Abate for her piece on the consulting experience at the Community Music School.

In addition, we hear from Arin Sullivan, AAGA President, on the Arts Advocacy Day in Washington, DC. We also learn more about the faculty and students in the Arts Administration program here at Drexel University.

I would like to welcome Ann Antanavage, the new Artsline editor for the spring term. She has helped complete this issue and will take over fully next term.

As I begin my work with Artsline, I want to thank Melissa Valvik for recommending me for the position of Artsline Editor!

This is a great issue, packed full of useful information on consultants and working with them. Our cover story by Thaddeus Squire brings new ideas on consulting to light and our Q & A, on page 4, gives readers the basics on starting a consulting project.

Welcome! In this issue of Artsline, we focus on how the Internet has changed communication in the arts. Alumnus John McInterney writes about Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance's Phillyfunguide.com and Funsavers e-mail program. An interview with Andrew Taylor explores his experiences as a blogger on ArtsJournal.com.

In addition, we hear from AAGA President, Arin Sullivan on current and upcoming events. We also learn a little more about the faculty and students in the Arts Administration program here at Drexel University.

As the new editor of Artsline, I encourage comments and contributions and I hope you enjoy this issue as much as I do.

In this issue of Artsline, we address some of the relationships the arts sector has with the law: alumna Sandra D'Amelio includes an excerpt from her thesis work on copy-right law, and student Dorilona Rose gives a profile of the current works of the Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyer's Association.

In addition, student Sophie Regnier gives an update on Arts Advocacy Day 2005, and department administrator Elizabeth Bentley-Smith reports on the AAAE conference.

I am pleased to bring another Artsline to the arts and culture community. Our purpose is to keep students, faculty, alumni and readers informed about our program and our field.

This issue of Artsline is dedicated to the subject of accessibility in the arts, focusing on organizations and performers with disabilities. The topic of disability is very close to my soul since I have lived with a physical disability all my life and have pursued an artistic career for almost as long.

What I offer you is a small glimpse into my discoveries and the movement to achieve inclusion in the arts for people living with disabilities.
